Throughout
time penis size has been a great concern for many people. Some
individuals consider a large penis to be a sign of masculinity,
while others are afraid of poor sexual performance and partner
disappointment. The correct way to measure a penis for length is
from the tip of the head to the base of the shaft. Girth should be
taken with a tape measure (soft and flexible so it can wrap around
the entire penis) at the thickest part of the penis.
Getting an
accurate measurement of the penis is very difficult for two
reasons. First, the penis needs to be at its maximum erection
point. Second, given that these measurements are usually
self-administered (they are rarely performed in a clinical
environment) the measurements may be biased. For example, a man
with a large penis might claim it is bigger than it actually is.
Or, a man with a smaller penis may add an additional inch or two, to
save his ego.
All things
considered, the reported average erect penis is 5 ½ inches long and
4 ½ inches wide. The flaccid penis should be stretched gently with
the fingers and measured from the tip to the belly. The average
size of a flaccid penis is 3 inches. This size has little to do
with how large the penis will grow when aroused.
